Endodontics

5 Ways That Endo Sneaks Into the General Dentist Practice

Endodontics is the thread in dentistry and connects all of the disciplines in dentistry.  And that is what makes endodontic education so important no matter what kind of dentist you are.  It doesn’t matter if you don’t do any root canal procedures in your office, you probably still do endo in your office every single day.  When you make a diagnosis, you are doing endo.  When you see a patient in pain and make a referral, you are doing endo.  When you see a patient with trauma, you are doing endo and when you see a discolored tooth, you may still be doing endo.  This lecture was created to make you aware of how endo sneaks into your office and you may not even realize it.  And when we really take endodontic education seriously, we can grow our practices even more.

Learning Objectives

Understand the different areas where endodontic education can have an impact on your practice and with helping your patients.

Understand the importance of understanding your endodontic diagnosis prior to any referral you make out of your office.

Understand what to do in trauma cases and make sure your patients get the care they need during this stressful event, and understand the best way to handle discoloration after trauma.

Understand how all of this knowledge relates to the business of dentistry and how you can grow your practice.

Case Selection and Instrumentation Considerations for the General Practitioner

Case Selection and diagnosis may be the most critical components in achieving clinical success for the general practitioner.  Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) imaging has become an indispensable adjunct in the diagnosis and treatment planning of endodontic cases.  This session will discuss traditional imaging and CBCT to aid the clinician in picking the most predictable cases.  After case selection, instrumentation and disinfection of the root canal system are necessary for long term healing.   In the last several years, there has been an explosion in the number of new endodontic file systems.  it is increasingly difficult for practitioners to make informed choices about which design features can achieve the best clinical outcomes.  This case-based review of cutting-edge instrumentation options will place special emphasis on creating anatomically driven shapes allowing clinicians to make the best instrumentation choice for any root canal anatomy.

Learning Objectives

Efficiently perform more predictable endodontics.

Differentiate the design features and working characteristics of commonly used root canal instrumentation systems.

Understand the importance of root canal shaping to promote three-dimensional disinfection and obturation.

The Evolution from DDS to CEO

The business of dentistry is much more complex than it was just ten years ago. The margins are slimmer, the debt required is expanding, and the risk is higher. The entire financial model of dentistry has turned upside down. Payor sources, suppliers, lenders, and other companies and investors enjoy massive profit margins many times that of the average dental practice, and the gap will only continue to widen over time if we don’t adapt.

A new type of dental leader, the Dental CEO, is emerging. Thinking like a CEO, and developing a strategy where working smarter, not harder becomes a reality will separate the truly successful dentists from the masses.

Learning Objectives

The things dentists need to know to take on this new role successfully.

The difference between a DDS and CEO, and the impact this personal growth can have as you lead your team to new heights.

How to operate in a way that maintains profitability even in phases of active growth.

How clear aligners can help us adapt and evolve the practice into a profit center in any financial market.

The Friction Fit Prosthesis for Today’s Edentulous Patient: A Digital Workflow

This lecture will discuss the advantages of the friction fit conometric concept for full-arch implant-supported prostheses. This proven technique of a cone-in-cone telescopic technique provides a non-resilient prosthesis and eliminates the need for screws or cement in the fully edentulous patient. It provides the patient with optimal comfort and function with the ultimate advantage of cleansability and a decrease in the chance of soft tissue peri-implant problems.

This conometric concept has been studied for the past 20 plus years from an analog approach.

Today, because of the digital workflow and new resin materials for 3D printed prosetheses, this unique concept has now been adapted to a 100% digital approach.

Learning Objectives

Understand the concept of frictional retention and its advantages.

Recognize the differences in clinical steps between the analog and digital approach.

Describe the bonding strengths of 3D printed vs traditionally processed dentures.

Understand the advantages of 3D printed dentures and their impact on laboratory and clinical workflows.

Understand the advantages of friction retention and how it can help prevent soft tissue problems for the patient.
