Ankylos

Excellence without exception

Implanting TissueCare

The Ankylos implant system is a dependable and well-designed dental implant system providing you with solutions that deliver long-term stability of hard and soft tissues, lasting aesthetics and reliable functionality, which your dental patients will appreciate and Dentsply Sirona Implants as manufacturer backs with a lifetime warranty. Dentsply Sirona Implants backs its implant systems with a lifetime warranty.

System highlights

Horizontal offset

The geometry of the Ankylos TissueCare connection moves the transition between implant and abutment to a central position. This integrated horizontal offset design establishes a broad basis for hard and soft tissue stability at the implant shoulder. In combination with the absence of micro-movement and the prevention of bacterial ingrowth, this enables long-term tissue maintenance.

Subcrestal placement

The unique friction-locked and keyed TissueCare connection ensures such a precise fit of the two components that it allows for subcrestal placement of the implant and positive bone response, thus enabling the desired emergence profile, and transgingival healing. Ankylos is therefore able to provide the flexibility of a two-piece system while ensuring hard and soft tissue remain healthy and free of irritation.

Micro-rough implant shoulder

The patented microstructured implant shoulder allows for bone formation up to the abutment. This supports the overlying soft tissue and establishes optimized conditions for long-term tissue stability and health.

Implanting TissueCare

The Ankylos implant system has been scientifically and clinically proven to promote and maintain hard and soft tissue over time. Called the TissueCare Concept, this combination of unique features provides you and your patients with reliable functionality and aesthetics.

One-fits-all TissueCare connection

One-fits-all TissueCare connection

All abutment sizes share one tapered connection simplifying the treatment protocol. A steep connection taper promotes friction lock without micro-movement, providing non-indexed prosthetics while offering an indexed option.

Long term hard and soft tissue stability

SoftTissue Chamber

The TissueCare connection and the micro-rough implant shoulder allow for subcrestal placement. In combination with a horizontal offset and the concave abutment design, a chamber for soft tissue and bone is created, supporting tissue stability.

Ankylos The Thread

Progressive thread

The thread design transfers the functional load to the apical part of the implant and creates primary stability allowing for immediate loading.

Ankylos The Surface

The Friadent plus surface

The grit-blasted and high temperatureetched Friadent plus microstructure excels by rapid bone formation on the implant surface. This results in early osseointegration and high bone-to-implant contact.

Surgery

Surgical flexbility

The implant assortment for Ankylos provides you with the versatility you need to satisfy the requirements of each patient’s clinical situation. You will be supported throughout the surgical process by a simple step-by-step surgical protocol, allowing for either transgingival or submerged healing.

Conventional treatment planning

Conventional treatment planning

  • Templates are implant-specific and provide different magnifications that correspond to the radiograph magnification.

Surgical template – a thermoformed splint with radiographic balls that can be accurately repositioned in the patient‘s mouth is prepared:

  • Can be subsequently modified to a conventionally fabricated surgical template.
  • The pre-prosthetic planning is simplified with pre-selected prosthetic components.
Simplant – Computer-guided treatment planning

Simplant – Computer-guided treatment planning

Simplant dental planning software provides you with accurate and predictable surgery options. It will help you to assess your patients’ anatomy and its exact relationship to the proposed restoration. Treatment planning is easily communicated to your dental team, your dental laboratory, and the patient – everyone can see and understand what the treatment entails.

Ankylos C/X implants

Ankylos C/X implants

Ankylos C/X implants are available in four diameters and six lengths. The practical size classification makes them suitable for all indications in dental implantology with a manageable number of implants. Individual implants are identified by a capital letter for diameter and a number for length (6.6–17 mm). Color-coding is used to identify the implant diameter. Site preparation instruments are also color-coded.

Sterile packaging

Ankylos C/X implants are supplied in a double-sterile blister package with an outer carton. This type of package offers the maximum possible product safety in conformance with the increasingly rigid requirements for medical devices. The packaging also makes it easy to store all products for quick retrieval and they are easy to handle during the surgical procedure: Included with each implant is a cover screw and pre-mounted placement head.

Diameters and lengths

Diameter and Lengths

The surgical kits for Ankylos are made from plastic and feature a modular structure including all instruments required for the standardized surgical protocol. The light plastic trays with organizers integrated into the cover for holding used instruments define a specific user sequence during surgery. All instruments are securely held in silicone holders.

Three types of surgical kits are available for Ankylos

  1. Machine-driven protocol (A and B implants only) – includes instruments for motor-driven placement of Ankylos A- and B-implants (diameter 3.5 and 4.5 mm).

  2. Manual insertion protocol – includes instruments for placement of Ankylos A- and B- or A-, B- and C-implants with manual final preparation; instruments for motor-driven final preparation are only available for A- and B-implants; similar to other drill modules, a drill module for C- and D-implants (manual) can be ordered separately and added to the kit.

  3. Guided surgery protocol – includes instruments in 8–14 mm lengths for template-guided placement of Ankylos C/X A- and B-implants; the Sleeve-on-Drill sleeves required for use with guided surgery must be ordered separately.

Ankylos instrument set

An essential precondition for a successful implant placement is your accurate and atraumatic preparation of the bone at the implant site. The instrument set for the Ankylos implant system contains precisely designed and shaped instruments ideal for your site preparations.

Ankylos Tri-Spade Drills (twist drills)

Tri-Spade Drills (twist drills)

  • Implant-diameter specific
  • Multiple-use twist drills
  • Top and bottom edges of the ring markings indicate the implant lengths
  • Areas below the 6.6 mm, and between the 8/9.5 mm and 11/14 mm markings, shaded to improve orientation
Conical Reamers

Conical Reamers

  • One reamer per implant diameter and length
  • Used for conical expansion of the depth drilling in the crestal region
  • Can also be used counterclockwise for bone condensation where bone density is low (manual reamers)

Taps

  • One tap per implant diameter can be used for all implant lengths
  • For tapping the implant site
  • It is not necessary to tap where the bone density is significantly reduced

After you have prepared the implant site, you will follow a step-by-step drilling protocol for atraumatic placement of Ankylos.

Depending on the clinical situation, you can follow either the transgingival or the submerged healing protocol. With transgingival healing of the implants, a second surgical procedure is not necessary. Simultaneously, you can take advantage of the regeneration potential of soft tissue for creating the ideal emergence profile.

Bone smoothing

1. Bone smoothing

After mobilization of the mucoperiosteal flap sharp bone crests are lightly smoothed with the internally irrigated round drill.

Pilot drilling

2.  Pilot drilling

The direction of the implant is defined with the twist drill.

Depth drilling

3. Depth drilling

The top edge of the ring markings indicates the implant lengths. The Tri-Spade drill A is always used first. When placing B, C or D-implants the hole is expanded in ascending order.

Operation of the conical reamer motorized or manual

4. Operation of the conical reamer motorized or manual

The conical reamer is inserted into the drilled hole and preparation is started with clockwise rotation without high pressure.

Operation of the tap motorized or manual

5. Operation of the tap motorized or manual

The thread is prepared clockwise.

Removing the implant from the packaging and placing the implant driver

6. Removing the implant from the packaging and placing the implant driver

Placing the implant motorized or manual

7. Placing the implant motorized or manual

Disassembly of implant driver and placement head

8. Disassembly of implant driver and placement head

Hold the placement head with an open-end wrench, slacken the clamping screw of the placement head with the 1 mm hex screwdriver. Round drills and twist drills are operated at 800 rpm (revolutions per minute). For motorized operation the maximum speed is 15 rpm, the maximum torque 60 Ncm.

Keep the inner blister horizontal with the sealing foil upwards when opening and keep it after removal of the implant holder; it contains the cover screw of the implant, which is mounted after implant placement for submerged healing. The maximum speed is 15 rpm, the maximum torque 50 Ncm.

Submerged healing

9a. Submerged healing

If the implant is planned for submerged healing, the cover screw must be placed after removal of the placement head.

Transgingival healing

9b. Transgingival healing

If transgingival healing is planned for the implant, a gingiva former of corresponding in gingival height and planned prosthetic range must be placed after removal of the placement head.

Prosthetics

Prosthetic freedom

Ankylos prosthetics are available for cement-, screw-, and attachment-retained restorations in all clinical indications. In situations when you have achieved the desired primary implant stability, and there is appropriate occlusal loading, you can opt for the immediate loading of single tooth and/or multiple tooth restorations.

All prosthetic components for Ankylos are laser-marked to indicate their use:

  • Components marked with “C/” only use the cone for the connection and are not indexed – this means that the abutment components can be positioned as desired and are completely friction-locked by the cone in order to prevent rotation.

  • Components marked with “/X” are indexed – the index is used to position the abutments in the implants in one of six possible positions. In this case, it is also the cone that ensures optimum stability and rotation locking.

  • Components marked with “C/X” are used for indexed or non-indexed prosthetics.

Solutions for single-tooth replacement

For the replacement of single teeth with implant supported single crowns, the Ankylos implant system has a wide selection of prosthetic options for fabricating naturally and esthetically pleasing restorations with durable retention of the peri-implant hard and soft tissue.

Select the most suitable solution for the individual case based on the following overview. Both, prefabricated abutments for conventionally fabricated prosthetics as well as patient-specifically planned and CAD/CAM-fabricated abutments for highly esthetic restorations are at your disposal.

Solutions for larger tooth gaps

Ankylos also provides a large range of options for restoration in larger edentulous gaps and free ends, both for conventional restorations as well as for digitally fabricated CAD/CAM prosthetics. The following is an overview of the options for providing your patients with a multi-span bridge.

As well as a bridge, in these cases, restoration is also possible using single crowns following a tooth-bytooth concept. For this purpose, make your decision using the options shown on the previous page for single-tooth restorations.

The Ankylos implant system features two alternatives for attachment-retained overdentures on non-splinted implants.

Ankylos Snap Attachments C/

Ankylos Snap Attachments C/ allow you to attach an overdenture in the edentulous mandible simply and economically. You can use the existing prosthesis chairside, or have a new overdenture fabricated at your dental laboratory.

Attaching overdentures on two implants in the mandible by means of the snap attachment is a very straightforward and fast restoration option for edentulous patients. Snap Attachments are available with tapered implant connection geometry only.

Ankylos Locator abutments

Your edentulous patients want an overdenture that is secure but still easy to remove for cleaning. The self-aligning function of the Locator abutments can help you fulfill your patient requirements.

Likewise, because Locator is a simpler attachment device, you can deliver overdentures in the maxilla and the mandible more easily, especially for patients with limited motor functions, and in cases where occlusal clearance is limited or implants diverge.

There are several restorative treatment modalities you can use with Ankylos for delivering the optimal solution to your patients. You can choose from concepts that deliver immediate restorations to your edentulous patients; sculpture soft tissues; and provide chairside restorations through intraoral welding, for example.

Ankylos TitaniumBase abutment

Ankylos TitaniumBase abutment

TitaniumBase enables your dental technician to fabricate esthetically high-quality titanium core ceramic abutments for the posterior region. At the same time, they give you all the advantages of a prefabricated, stable implant-abutment connection.

Ankylos SynCone

Ankylos SynCone

SynCone is an extremely economical and easy-to-use solution based on prefabricated components for providing your patients with removable bridges and dentures. SynCone is an innovative application of the telescopic technique successfully combining technical precision and economical prosthetics.

  • Rotation-locked and accurate – the friction-locked connection, without play, between the SynCone abutment and the coping as a prefabricated tapered crown offers complete mechanical stability and dependability.

  • Immediate loading – your patient will experience the success of the treatment immediately.

  • Atraumatic – surgical procedures and the prosthetic restoration are completed during the anesthetic phase within approximately two hours.

  • Simple installation – no special implants or special instruments are required for treatment.
The WeldOne concept

The WeldOne concept

WeldOne provides a stable, passively fitting framework for temporary or durable prostheses for immediate restorations – suitable for immediate or late loading. It is a fast and economical solution to deliver partial- and full-arch restorations on the same day of surgery.

This concept is exclusively designed for dental implants made by Dentsply Sirona Implants and offers the following benefits:

  • Meet patient demand for immediate restorations – surgical procedure and prosthetic delivery on the same day of surgery.

  • Significant time and cost reduction – standardized protocol with specially designed components for minimize appointments, reducing total treatment costs.

  • Less risk of fractures on temporaries – immediate reinforcement of the temporary by a titanium framework.

  • Safe and predictable for immediate loading treatment – as a consequence of reduced mobility of implants due to immediate rigid splinting a risk of implant failures during healing phases can be minimized.

  • No additional impression taking of implants necessary – simultaneous delivery of a titanium framework on implant abutments at one time; advantage of the one abutment at one time philosophy in case of abutment level restorations.

Different fabrication procedures can be selected for this unique concept of prosthetic restoration:

  • Temporary restorations on implant level
  • Temporary or durable restorations on abutment level

The Ankylos temporary solutions allow you the opportunity to sculpture soft tissue allowing you to harmonize the final abutment margin with soft tissue shape. Temporary abutments function as the retentive base for cement- or screw-retained crowns, or cemented-retained bridges, created by your dental laboratory.

Ankylos Balance C/ temporary abutment

Ankylos Balance C/ is used to fabricate a short-term provisional, both in the anterior and posterior regions. It is easily adaptable to the clinical situation with two diameters (large and small), two gingival heights (1.5 and 3.0 mm) and two angulations (0° and 15°):

  • Two-piece abutment with a separate screw.
  • Large abutment can be customized by grinding.
  • Thanks to the zirconium oxide additive it is stable and radiopaque.
  • Temporary dentures on Balance C/ abutments can be worn for a maximum of 6 months.
