Dentsply Sirona Strives for a Healthy Planet

We have always taken our role as an environmental steward seriously because a healthy planet is fundamental to our future. As a global leader in manufacturing dental products and technologies, we continuously seek to identify solutions to minimise the environmental impact of our operations and conserve resources.

For Dentsply Sirona, a healthy planet is one where greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are reduced, resources and water consumption are managed sustainably, waste is minimised, and pollution is mitigated at every opportunity.

We remain committed to creating sustainable working environments by ensuring our facilities and offices are energy efficient and implementing robust recycling and waste management practices. In terms of sustainable packaging, we continued to optimise the materials we use for product packaging, with the aim to minimise waste and help develop a circular supply chain.

We strive to embed sustainable practices beyond our own operations and encourage collaboration, which is why we became a founding member of the FDI World Dental Federation’s landmark Sustainability in Dentistry initiative in 2021. In 2023, we collaborated with the FDI World Dental Federation to develop the Sustainability in Dentistry Massive Open Online Course (“MOOC”). This is a dedicated course created to help dentists, dental teams, and students understand the impact of oral healthcare on the environment and utilise evidence-based dentistry to improve their patients’ oral health in an environmentally conscious way.

Dentsply Sirona’s Strategic Environmental Priorities

Currently we are in the process of conducting a double materiality assessment in accordance with the European Union’s CSRD and these findings will inform our new 2030 targets.

We are proud to share that in 2023, we significantly decreased our Scope 1-2 GHG emissions by 47% compared with our 2019 baseline measurement, and therefore we have already exceeded our goals ahead of the original 2025 timeframe.

We remain committed to our reporting in alignment with the climate disclosure guidance from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (“TCFD”) recommendations, as well as the Sustainability Accounting Standards Boards (“SASB”) standards.

By submitting our annual environmental data to CDP, a global non-profit, who helps to guide companies on their journey towards environmental leadership, we intend to achieve “Management” recognition with our 2023 data.

We have collected and are in the process of analysing primary and secondary Scope 3 emissions data covering, purchased goods and services, capital expenditures, waste generated in operations, business travel, transportation and distribution.
