Befriending the blood clot is the primary goal of the implant clinician.  The presentation of sockets and socket defects may be varied, but the guiding principles of healing are the same.  Blurred is the line between preservation and augmentation of the ridge, but appreciating them as siblings of the same fundamental process will help the clinician grasp the mechanisms of achieving a bone-growth conducive for implant placement.
