Dr. Eimear O’Connell qualified from Edinburgh University in 1992, after which she did a year as a house officer in consultancy/casualty/oral surgery. She then worked as an associate in an NHS practice in Edinburgh until 1995, when she set up her own practice, Bite Dentistry in Edinburgh. Dr. O’Connell has been working in Edinburgh ever since and her practice became fully private in 1997.
Dr. O’Connell received her MFGDP from Royal College of Surgeons in London in 2007, and more recently completed her Diploma of Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2014 and her FFGDP from Royal College of Surgeons, London in 2015. She has continued to run her practice and develop it. It now has four dentists and two hygienists. Dr. O’Connell has used CEREC digital technology since 2008 and believes the increased success of her practice has much to do with the implementation of digital dentistry.
In 2014, Dr. O’Connell won a UK business award from Software of Excellence as well as winning Best Overall Practice in Scotland at the Dentistry Scotland awards. In 2015, the practice won the Best Patient Care award. She has also had articles published in Scottish Dentistry, Private Dentistry, The Probe and Dentistry magazines.
Dr. O’Connell is the immediate past president of ADI, and prior to this, was the ADI representative for Scotland. She also undertakes public speaking in the UK and internationally and recently attained her PGCert in sedation from Newcastle University. She has a keen interest in digital dentistry, is an opinion leader for Dentsply Sirona, and often lectures on their behalf. Dr. O’Connell is a member of BACD, BSOS, the Royal College of Surgeons of London, and Edinburgh, the Royal Odonto-Chirurgical Society of Scotland and the Academy of Osseointegration.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. O’Connell coaches, plays hockey, and enjoys sailing and skiing. Eimear has 3 daughters, which is why she is so passionate about helping women in dentistry!
