Every clinically sound decision starts with a solid understanding of the basics. Participants in this course will learn more about the biological responses in play when orthodontic forces are applied to teeth to move them. They will then apply these biomechanical concepts to aligner design so that clinicians better appreciate the variation in aligner features offered by aligner manufacturers. This course helps participants uncover any limitations aligners present and will help them identify instances where doctors find that aligner-guided tooth movements are highly predictable and instances where aligners are less predictable.

This course is all about honing the fundamentals so that you can be confident in clinical situations where understanding how teeth move, and specifically how aligners are designed to move teeth, is critical.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the types of tooth movements used to correct alignment issues
  • Determine which types of aligner-guided tooth movements are most predictable for clinicians to achieve using aligner therapy
  • Recognize the various aligner design features and describe how they impact tooth movement(s)
  • List other adjunctive therapies or auxiliaries often used to facilitate or accelerate therapeutic tooth movement

This course is intended for dental professionals or students with a basic understanding of dental terminology, practice, and proficiency.
