After the removal of diseased tooth structure, recreating an optimal foundation for an indirect crown or onlay is essential for the success of the final restoration. The ‘build-up’ acts to complete the repair of the tooth, whether vital or endodontically treated, and sets the stage for a successful ‘restoration’ of the tooth to full function. In this course, we will discuss the evidence-based procedures for build-ups, emphasizing the best materials and techniques for post and cores, bases and liners, and isolation techniques, highlighting procedures for endodontically treated teeth.

Learning Objectives:

  • Summarize the etiologies of failure for endodontically treated teeth
  • Describe restorative diagnosis risk assessment criteria for endodontically treated teeth
  • Identify and differentiate the parameters for Direct vs. Indirect Restoration for endodontically treated teeth
  • Determine when to post and when not to post
  • Demonstrate clinical guidelines for post placement and core build-up
  • Summarize strategies on how to accomplish endodontics to crown in less visits
