It's what is on the inside that counts: New zirconia disks with an intrinsic color gradient

Dental Lab

Dentsply Sirona has expanded its range of zirconium oxide portfolio to include a disk with an inner color gradient: Cercon xt Multilayer, or for short: Cercon xt ML. With its natural gradient from incisal to dentin, this new and exciting product provides life-like esthetics, reliable color accuracy and faster production processing.

Cercon xt Multilayer is an extra-translucent material with various shade layers that offers excellent esthetics, even in monolithic restoration. It enables even better reproduction of the natural tooth's color gradient than was previously possible. As a result, the laboratory benefits from the color reliability of the tried-and-tested True Color Technology and the same sintering temperature as for Cercon ht and Cercon xt. This simplifies and speeds up the sintering processes in the laboratory.

The new multilayer zirconia is available in 16 VITA* colors and BL2. Cercon xt ML has four layers integrated into the disk: one dentin, two transition layers and one incisal. Laboratory technicians and owners will find that staining Cercon xt ML restorations is not needed because the perfect life-like color gradient from incisal to dentin is similar to a natural tooth, even in the monolithic restorations. The only processing required is a coat of glaze and glaze firing. The unprecedented level of shade accuracy eliminates extra correction steps and reduces remakes.

Thanks to the color reliability and the extra high translucency, the life-like esthetics are particularly noticeable in the anterior teeth. Besides the VITA* spectrum, a bleached shade (BL2) is also available if particularly light colors need to be reproduced. Every shade has its own incisal shade to further replicate the esthetics of natural teeth. With these advantages, Cercon xt ML is an excellent addition to high-strength glass ceramics, e.g., Celtra. The material offers 750 MPa flexural strength, and is indicated for all-ceramic anterior and posterior restorations including crowns and 3-unit bridges up to the second premolar.

Esthetic design options – economic advantages

It goes without saying that the laboratory technician will be able to work very quickly with this new disk. From a business perspective, Cercon xt ML offers another interesting benefit: The strength and position of the dentin layer make it easier to position a restoration in the disk during planning and to make the best use of the blank through skillful nesting. It has proven beneficial when the layering in the incisal and transition areas is the same, regardless of the size of the blank, and is only different in the dentin area.

Cercon xt Multilayer is now available in three different heights: 14 mm, 18 mm and 25 mm. They all have a diameter of 98 mm to enable processing with all of the leading open systems. The new disks are tailored to Dentsply Sirona's inLab MC X5. They can easily be read in by scanning the printed QR codes.
