Exploring the latest updates: DS Core, Dentsply Sirona’s Digital Dental Platform

Over the last few months, DS Core, Dentsply Sirona’s digital dental platform has continued to receive new functionalities and continuous improvements based on valuable customer feedback. These changes continue to make the platform a powerful tool for dental offices, specialists as well as labs.

This article explores the latest updates and features on DS Core, including an advanced ordering solution, improved collaboration tools, SureSmile Aligner Treatment Simulator and improved Sidexis 4 integration with full X-ray history upload.

DS Core ordering solution: More indications and improved lab collaboration


DS Core ordering solution is your one-stop-shop for design and manufacturing orders for a multitude of indications. Same functionality as the Connect Case Centre that Omnicam* and Primescan intra-oral scanner users know, but accessible from any device and integrated seamlessly integrated in DS Core. Recent feature updates are described below:
 

  • Expanded lab options: DS Core’s integrated ordering solution allows dental practices to place orders to a continuously growing list of dental labs that registered and actively use DS Core. Additionally, any lab can receive orders via DS Core without requiring a DS Core subscription.
  • Better chat: The chat functionality in the DS Core ordering solution has undergone a modern user experience update, now supporting embedded two-way file-sharing for great dentist-lab collaboration.
  • Increased compatibility: The ordering solution can be used with intra-oral scans from Dentsply Sirona and 3rd party scanners. STL, PLY and OBJ file formats can now be viewed directly within DS Core 3D web-viewer.
  • SureSmile® Aligner Treatment ordering։ DS Core enables dentists to initiate SureSmile Aligner Treatment orders directly from the platform. With a SureSmile Aligner account, dentists can seamlessly initiate the treatment planning and ordering processes.
  • Save orders as draught: After having started creating an order, the process can be paused and the draught of the order can be finalised later, increasing flexibility and delegation options.
  • Account option without subscription for dentists: DS Core offers an account designed for those interested in only ordering via DS Core, without any storage or more advanced collaboration and consultation features – a great replacement for your Connect Case Centre account. The account without subscription is available to customers after their 3 months trial, or at any time when cancelling their subscription.

DS Core Lab accounts: Growing list of features available to labs

DS Core is also available to labs – offering the ability to access the digital dental platform as the dentist version, now with specific features that support the lab's workflow.

 

  • No subscription needed: Labs can register on DS Core, to offer their services, reach all dentists on the platform and exchange files and collaborate with their dentists.
  • Redesigned chat: Labs benefit from the same chat functionality improvements in the DS Core ordering solution as the dentist, with a modern UX update and support for embedded two-way file-sharing.
  • Increased compatibility: The ordering solution can be used with intra-oral scans from Dentsply Sirona and 3rd party scanners. STL, PLY and OBJ file formats can now be viewed directly within DS Core 3D web-viewer.
  • New PDF worksheets documentation feature: Labs can now export the order information as a PDF worksheet for complete order documentation. The worksheet includes information such as sender, patient, recipient, order details, and treatment details. This allows labs to print worksheets and attach them to their internal workflow system when creating a physical restoration.
  • New ´´Invite dentists to DS Core´´ feature: Labs can now invite dentists that are not yet on DS Core to join the platform. Labs have the ability to inform all their dentists about their accessibility via DS Core,regardless of intra-oral scanner they use. Additionally, labs can directly propose themselves as a preferred lab for their dentists, who only need to accept.

Communication Canvas: New annotations, CBCT viewing and patient share features available to DS Core subscribers

The Communication Canvas is an all-in-one communication tool to highlight findings and enhance the patient's understanding of a medical image. 
 

  • Added annotation feature: Users can create annotations on 2D x-ray, 2D media, & 2D CBCT slices. This feature allows for freehand drawing and text additions directly within Communication Canvas.
  • New automatic positioning of CBCT panoramic curve: When uploading a new CBCT to DS Core, the panoramic curve is automatically calculated and positioned based on an AI-based algorithm running in the background. This feature significantly reduces the manual effort before a dentist can start inspecting the CBCT as the PAN curve is already well positioned. The dentist still can adjust the curve manually if needed, either as a whole or only partially, giving the user high flexibility when using the canvas. 
  • Added option to switch off overlays in CBCT: Dentists can switch off all overlays when inspecting a CBCT, such as the crosshair visualisation on the CBCT slice views or in the inspection window. By doing so, the dentist has the flexibility to either have visual inspection support or focus exclusively on the image details depending on the way they want to interpret the CBCT. 
  • Added feature of persistent Canvas: The Canvas now preserves the layout of the media, as well a the annotations made, saving time when preparing for patient consulation, and when reviewing the case.
  • New patient share functionality: Dentist can now share 2D media and DI scans directly from the Communication Canvas - making file sharing with patients easy and GDPR/HIPAA compliant. 

New SureSmile™ Simulator  available to DS Core subscribers

DS Core now includes a SureSmile Simulator, to help support SureSmile® Clear Aligner patient communication. 
 

  • Smile Simulation: A 3D-visualisation is an excellent way for patients to see the potential value of their investment. Educate patients about their estimated treatment duration and potential results. Save and send images to your patients so they can show family and friends.
  • Treatment duration and complexity indicator։  The Simulator is designed to provide treatment estimation and case complexity level for a scan in under 5 minutes1.
  • Integration in DS Core ordering solution: The SureSmile® Aligner Treatment ordering process can be initiated directly from the Simulator.
  • New patient share functionality: Dentist can now share SureSmile Simulations directly and compliantly with the patient.

Full X-ray history in the cloud, enabling better patient consultation

  • Added ability to upload X-ray history: DS Core users with Light, Standard and Advanced subscriptions can now upload historical imaging data from Sidexis 4
  • New Sidexis 4 uploader for improved stability: A new uploader is available from the equipment menu. Once installed, customers will be able to upload historical data either patient by patient (as of Sidexis V4.3.1) or for all patients at once (as of Sidexis V4.4).

Customer Support Portal։ Updated content and accessible via DS Core

It provides users with a first self-help platform to receive answers for their immediate questions. The portal combines Instructions for Use, tutorial videos and troubleshooting steps - all in one place.
 

  • User-friendly start page: The portal offers a user-friendly start page for easy product navigation, ensuring a seamless user experience.
  • Regular content update։ the Customer Support Portal contains regular content updates, ensuring users have access to the latest information and resources.
  • Multiple language support: The portal is available in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese, catering to a diverse user base.
  • Stay up-to-date on latest changes: The Customer Support Portal now features a 'What's New?' section, where customers can effortlessly discover the latest features released on DS Core.
  • Access directly or via DS Core: Feel free to explore the Customer Support Portal yourself or in DS Core via the Feedback & Support section.
