Charlotte, N.C. For the fourth consecutive year, Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest diversified manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, is partnering with the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) to raise awareness about the importance of oral health and to rally action on World Oral Health Day (WOHD).
Unbeknown to many, oral diseases can, beyond leading to serious health issues, also lead to pain, discomfort, social isolation, and loss of self-confidence[1]. This is why this year’s theme for WOHD, “A happy mouth is a happy mind,” emphasizes the interconnectedness of oral health with overall physical and mental well-being.
Estimates indicate that oral diseases affect 3.5 billion people worldwide, nearly 45% of the global population[2].
“The solution to better oral health lies in preventive and timely care and improved access to quality oral health services, in support of a better overall health. By collaborating across our industry, we can amplify oral health awareness and advocate for better access for all. Our continued partnership with FDI on WOHD is close to our heart as it aligns with our sustainability strategy, "BEYOND” and our commitment to taking action for a brighter world”, says Andrea Frohning, SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer at Dentsply Sirona.
Similar to what it did last year for WOHD, Dentsply Sirona is set to launch a number of activities throughout the year, to raise awareness about oral health. Beyond a dedicated digital campaign, an award for the “Most Engaging Educational Activity” of the year will be handed out in September. FDI members from all over the world are invited to take part in the competition and highlight educational activities launched by them in support of their patients and communities. To support their efforts, Dentsply Sirona is making available educational toolkits that the participants as well as all interested dental practitioners can share within their respective communities.
“We are proud to partner with Dentsply Sirona. With a global network of dental practitioners and researchers, they are perfectly positioned to champion better access to good oral health and to raise awareness about the consequences of oral diseases,” says Dr. Greg Chadwick, President of the FDI World Dental Federation.
