Keeps going and going and...going. Quality management at Dentsply Sirona
Reliability is not a matter of course. It is not just the product of the standards which we live by, rather it is more the result of diligent quality management. An entire department comprising 17 employees works at Dentsply Sirona in Bensheim to ensure compliance with and monitoring of quality standards. The team headed by Marc Semmler, the Director for Instrument Quality Management, keeps a watchful eye on all internal processes.
The time and effort pay off
Each instrument group undergoes comprehensive testing. Each year a total of 120 to 140 endurance tests are performed with between 6 and 12 instruments in each test set-up.
Speeds, loads, practice: Over three phases, the experts put the instruments through their paces and monitor
closely whether statutory and internal guidelines were observed. "The standards we set ourselves are far more stringent than the regulations," explained Marc Semmler. "This is the only way to ensure maximum quality for our customers."
The phases of quality management
Phase 1
Dentsply Sirona instruments are tested for up to 600 hours in an idle state. This requires not just patience and constant vigilance but also reliable employees who continually maintain the instruments.
Phase 2
The instruments are subjected to loading on state-of-the-art test stands which stimulate realistic practice use.
Phase 3
Up to twelve employees test the instruments under treatment conditions. Preparation, treatment, disinfection and sterilization - the instruments pass through the procedural steps associated with day-to-day use in practices.
